Rules are a way for you to limit campaigns based on certain conditions.Only when these conditions are met, campaigns would run.
There are 5 types of Rules Groups:
1) Product
2) Page
3) Geography
4) Date/Time
5) Membership
You can set up complex Rules using AND or OR conditions. But please be careful that these Rules make logical sense.
Let’s take few examples to see how RULES work.
Example 1: Apply campaigns to products with category Alarm Clocks
Example 2: Apply campaigns to products with category Alarm Clocks where price is greater than 30
Example 3: Apply campaigns to the product with category Alarm Clocks OR apply campaigns to any products where price is greater than 30
Notice how using OR changes the meaning of similar looking conditions.
Let’s move on.
Example 4: Apply campaigns to the product with category Alarm Clocks and Sticky Header should show on All pages.
Notice how we used the CONDITION of OR and added Sticky Header/Footer specific Rules.
Example 5: Assume that a campaign has Discounts & Sticky Header. And you want to apply Discounts on products of category Alarm Clocks. Also, you want to show Sticky Header on Category Pages (/category/alarm-clocks/) of Alarm Clock.
Example 6: Apply campaigns on Saturday and Sunday.
It’s a slightly tricky condition. We have used rule OR.
Reason?
A day cannot be Sunday AND Monday at the same time. It has to be day is Sunday OR Monday 🙂
We hope this clears how Rules can be set up correctly. Please watch this video for the detailed explanation:
